The idea
What is Haunted House?
Haunted House is a Halloween party game of secret roles, bluffing and very loud accusations. Every phone gets a hidden role. The ghosts know each other and, each night, quietly pick someone to scare out of the house. The Medium checks one player a night and learns whether they're a ghost. Everyone else is a trick-or-treater, hiding in the attic, the basement or the kitchen. When morning comes, the big screen tells who was scared away and where they were hiding. Then the whole room argues, points fingers and votes someone out. Catch every ghost and the trick-or-treaters win. Let the ghosts match your numbers and the house is theirs.
Step by step
How to play Haunted House
-
Everyone joins on their phone and gets a secret role. Ghosts, a Medium, and trick-or-treaters. Don't show your screen!
-
At night, the ghosts pick someone to scare out of the house, the Medium checks if one player is a ghost, and trick-or-treaters pick a place to hide.
-
In the morning, the TV shows who was scared out and where they were hiding.
-
Talk it over out loud. Who's acting suspicious? Then everyone votes on their phone. The most votes leaves the house; a tie and nobody does.
-
Trick-or-treaters win when every ghost is out. Ghosts win when they're as many as everyone left in the house.
How many players?
4–12
players
4 players can play: one ghost, the Medium and two trick-or-treaters. It's at its best with 6 to 12, when there's more to argue about and, from 8 players, two ghosts working together.
Tips & tricks
How to win at Haunted House
-
Ghosts: pick your victim with your partner. If you don't agree, chance decides between your two picks.
-
Medium: don't reveal yourself too early. The ghosts will come for you next.
-
Trick-or-treaters: listen for anyone who knows too much, or defends someone too hard.
-
Everyone taps something at night, so a busy phone doesn't give a ghost away. Look at faces instead.
-
Out of the house? You can still watch, but keep quiet. No hints from beyond the grave!

Questions
Haunted House FAQ
How many players do you need for Haunted House?
At least 4, but it's best with 6 to 12. With 8 or more players there are two ghosts, and the host can also choose 1 or 2 ghosts in the settings.
How do the ghosts talk to each other without being noticed?
They don't need to. Each ghost sees the other ghosts and their picks on their own phone, so they can agree on a victim in silence.
What does the Medium do?
Each night the Medium picks one player and learns at once whether they're a ghost. The host can turn the Medium off in the settings for a simpler game.
What happens to players who are out?
They stay in the room as spectators. They can watch the TV but can't vote, and at the end everyone's role is revealed.
Can we play Haunted House over a video call?
Yes. Share the host screen on the call and everyone plays from their phone. The discussion happens out loud, just like in the same room.
How many players can play Haunted House?
